PAGE — The second annual Page 3v3 Street Fest Basketball Tournament will be held April 6-7, 2024, on street courts set up on South Navajo Drive between John C. Page Park and the Cultural Arts Building.

The tournament, organized by the City of Page, will feature three-person teams playing games in a “20-20” format, meaning they last for 20 minutes or until one team reaches 20 points.

“It’s a fast-moving game, but it’s fun to watch,” said Lynn Cormier, director of community engagement for the City of Page. “The teams that play are usually pretty good with it, and they like the 3v3 format because you don’t have to have a full team of five.”

The inaugural tournament on March 25, 2023, saw the participation of 15 teams, including several from as far away as Mesa, Prescott, Freedonia and Kingman. Thirty games were held throughout the day.

Sheri Ptacek, event specialist coordinator for the City of Page, is hoping to see more teams sign up this year, including teams made up of local middle school and high school players, as well as teams from the Navajo Nation.

“I think that every year that you have an event, it improves,” Ptacek said. “You get more people to sign up and more people to come watch it. I’m really trying to advertise it a lot this year more than last year and reaching out to all kinds of rec centers all the way to the Las Vegas and Phoenix areas.”

For this year’s tournament, teams of 3-4 players will be organized into brackets based on age level and category: Ages 11-13 (Coed), Ages 14-18 (Coed, Male and Female) and Ages 18 and Up (Coed, Male and Female). The registration fee of $100 per team includes the guarantee of at least three games in the team’s bracket throughout the tournament, T-shirt for players and championship hats for the winners.

New for this year will be additional warmup courts, as well as bleachers set up to accommodate more spectators.

During last year’s event, Cormier said the city was drawn to the idea of the 3v3 tournament because the local population loves basketball.

At last year’s tournament, two Page-based teams – Paris Saint-Germain and Retro – fought their way through their respective brackets and faced each other in the finals, with Paris Saint-Germain prevailing in the end.

In addition to calling for teams, organizers are also seeking volunteers for the event, including court monitors, scorekeepers, support staff, and helpers for the HQ tent, set-up and tear-down.

Registration forms for teams and volunteers, as well as official rules and regulations, can be found online at events.cityofpage.org/page-3v3-street-fest-tournament/.
