The Canyon Club raised more than $14,000 during its annual Life’s a Ball Canyon Club Ball Drop Saturday. The ball drop is part of the Balloon Regatta and Vendor Fair. 

The ball drop is the Canyon Club’s only fundraising event of the year. All the proceeds go back to the community in one form or another. The Canyon Club donated 10% of the money it raised to Page High School and Page Middle School athletic programs.

The majority of the funds raised goes to various improvement projects around Page. In recent years the Canyon Club has funded a geology exhibit at the newly reopened Powell Museum, shade structures at Coconino Community College, bicycle maintenance stations on the Rimview Trail and the Grand View Knoll Park.

One of the big projects the Canyon Club has on the near horizon is helping fund Page High School’s Hall of Fame.

“We just have exceptional support from the community and our businesses,” said Kay Leum, Canyon Club’s vice president. “The businesses are very gracious with their donations so we can have amazing prizes to give out to the people buying the balls. And we’ve just had an amazing response from the citizens of Page who really came out to support us.”

Ron Watson won this year’s $3,000 cash prize. The Canyon Club also gave out 16 high-value prizes this year, and 24 prizes valued at $200 or less, all of which were donated by area businesses.
