PAGE – The Sand Devils had a good new year start after coming back from Christmas break.
The Arizona Interscholastic Association on Jan. 7 released new rankings and seated the Sand Devils at No. 2, Valley Christian at No. 1, the defending champions Lady Sand Devils at No. 3, and the American leadership Academy-Gilbert North at No. 1.
The Page Boys got two players back from injuries: Junior guard Trent Holiday, the 2019 3A State Cross-country Champion, who’s a huge player and a really a big help with his talent and his speed; Senior guard Benjamin Alvarez is another player who brings a lot to this team coming off the bench.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, the boys and the Lady Sand Devils faced the No. 5 Chinle boys and the No. 17 Lady Wildcats on the Sand Devils home court. It was a big conference region game for the boys team. They are the two top teams in the 3A North Conference.

The Lady Wildcats had an even first quarter run of 6-6 until the second quarter, 2-11 Page, third 11-19 Page, and fourth quarter Chinle outscore Page, 22-14 Chinle. But Page pulled away with the win, 50-41.

• No. 10 Neve Redhair – 5-foot-7 junior
Page Sand Devils got their first home conference game test from the defending 3A North Conference Champions Chinle Wildcats. First quarter 11-17 Page, second quarter 17-15 Chinle, third quarter 17-3 Chinle, and fourth quarter 3-17 Page. It wasn’t an easy match up for the Sand Devils, but they managed to overcome in the fourth quarter, taking the win from Cooper Burkbank. The Wildcats’ final score was 48-60 Page.
Leading scorers for the Sand Devils:
• No. 34 Stuart Sandall – 6-foot-9 junior
On Thursday Jan. 9, 2020, the Sand Devils traveled to 2A Piñon Eagle territory for a non-conference game. After beating the Wildcats, they headed to Piñon, Arizona, where and the Eagles couldn’t handle the Devils. Sand Devils fans fill up the gym and supported their team with the win.
On Jan. 11, 2020, the Sand Devils faced another rival home game against the 3A North Monument Valley Mustangs. Over Christmas break, the Mustangs beat 6A, 5A, and 4A teams. The Mustangs are going to give the Sand Devils competition on their territory.
Throughout the game, Monument Valley played with the Sand Devils: first quarter 14-16 Page, second quarter 14-10 Monument Valley, third quarter 8-12 Page, and fourth quarter 8-18 Page. The Sand Devils had to regroup and break up Mustangs’ strategy because the Monument Valley team was really hanging. But both teams got into foul trouble in the fourth quarter. Finally, the Sand Devils pulled away with the win.

The Lady Sand Devils had it going in the first quarter, during which the Lady Mustangs played team ball and got by Page with the scores of the first quarter 13-9 Monument Valley. Not long after, the Sand Devils took control the of the game in the second quarter 3-21 Page. The Sand Devils just roll on by with win over the Lady Mustangs.
