Grassroots group to give out masks at Walmart

PAGE — The city is supplying masks to a grassroots effort led by Sharon Woodard, said Page Mayor Levi Tappan.

"A group of us feel strongly about `masking up' as much of our community, neighbors, and visitors as we can for the health and safety of citizens and viability of keeping Page open to all," Woodard said. "Our plan is to set up outside of Walmart on July 1st, 2nd, (and the) 3rd in order to especially support the elderly who usually shop at the beginning of each month. We want to hand out masks to anyone who needs one and to provide hand sanitizer to them before they enter the store.

"I am coordinating the setup and volunteer schedule and appreciate any assistance you can give us in securing masks for us to share. I know this is short notice, but if we can coordinate this, I can pick up masks from the city at any time you are available."

The name of the project is Mask Up, which is part of the COVID relief group Families to Families Ajooba' Hasin. Alicia Martin, originally from Bodaway-Gap, Arizona, is one of the group's organizers. Martin said it's "a collective effort of different relief groups/people coming together."

Alicia said, “There’s 5 of us that came together for this. Sharon Woodard reached out to the City for masks. I (Families to Families Ajooba’ Hasin) am donating drinks/ food/ sanitizers for the volunteers, etc Mary Francis (Navajo Hopi Families COVID 19 Relief) donating tables, banners, volunteers Marla Lane from LeChee recruiting volunteers, wrote the letter asking Walmart if we could. Lyonel Tso from LeChee is donating hand sinks.”
