Donald Knapp, 78, of Page, Arizona, passed away March 5, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Catherine Knapp; and his brother Robert. He is survived by his wife, Karen and his three sons: Jim, Brian, and Kevin; Daughters-in-law Christina and Colleen; and his beloved grandchildren Nalin and Liadan Knapp.

Donald was born in Long Island, New York, in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and was commissioned as an officer in 1973. He married Karen Mae Scott in 1965.

He served the country for 25 years before retiring as captain in Tucson, and then worked the next 20 years as a safety engineer for Hughes Aircraft. He moved to Page in 2007 to begin his dream retirement job as a grandfather.

Don was a devoted husband, loving father, and a grandfather. Everyone who was lucky enough to know him and to hear his catch phrase, “it doesn’t get any better than this,” can attest to him being truly one of the nicest and most positive persons.

This continued even through the last six weeks of hospitalization and the impact he made on his caregivers.

You were right, dad, with you in our lives it doesn’t get any better than this! You’re already dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

There will be a viewing on Monday, March 16 at 9:30 a.m., followed by rosary at 10:30 a.m. and then a memorial mass at noon, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with internment at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Camp Navajo in Bellemont, Arizona, on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at noon.
