Pictured, LeChee residents listen in on potential Navajo Nation Council delegates during a July 28 forum meeting at the LeChee Chapter House. The LeChee Planning and Zoning committee invited the five delegates running for this year’s District 1 Navajo Nation Council elections for a question and answer session with members of the community. “None of the candidates this year are from LeChee, so I think it is especially important we get this kind of dialogue going,” said Planning and Zoning member Ivan Gamble. District 1 represents the communities of LeChee, Bodaway/Gap, Red Lake, Coppermine, and Kaibeto. Many concerned citizens attended the three-hour-long forum and questions ranged from concerns with ongoing drought conditions, Navajo water rights, job security, the future of the Navajo Generating Station, transparency in government, and the trajectory of education. Many of the questions were asked and answered exclusively in the Navajo language.
