New behavioral system adopted by PUSD

Posted: Wednesday, Mar 12th, 2014

PUSD Superintendent Jim Walker calls out the winning number for a lucky winner at the March 6 Chamber of Commerce mixer, which was hosted by the school district.

The monthly Chamber of Commerce mixer was hosted by the Page Unified School District last Thursday at the Page High School Cultural Arts Building. Among the festivities were a guided tour of the Career Technical Education building, and a booth dedicated to the newly implemented PBIS system.

PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a nationally recognized and federally funded system that, “gives schools capacity-building information and technical assistance for identifying, adapting, and sustaining effective school-wide disciplinary practices,” according to its website.

“It’s a way of looking at behavior, a way of reevaluating behavior,” said PBIS District Coordinator Susan Pilkington. “They’re research-based and proven techniques which are implemented by both staff and teachers.”
