Page High girls advance to state quarterfinals

Modified: Saturday, Feb 22nd, 2014

The Lady Sand Devils blew through the San Carlos Braves, 69-33, in their opening game of the Arizona Division III girls basketball championship Feb. 22 in Kayenta.

Led by Autumn Whitehorse and Ember Sloan, Page ran out to a 22-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Devils played a suffocating defense, turning steals into points and pushing their lead to 63-22 a couple of minutes into the fourth quarter.

Page, seeded eighth in the state tournament, received a first-round bye, while the #9 Braves edged #24 Sedona Red Rock, 54-53, to advance to the second-round game, held at Monument Valley High School.

The Sand Devils (21-8) travel to Prescott Valley Feb. 26 to face the winner of #1 Valley Christian and #16 Alchesay. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Timís Toyota Center.

The winner of that game advances to the semifinals in Glendale Feb. 28 at the Jobing.com Center, which also hosts the state championship game March 1.
