Monsoons, dogs and lizards

Pat Talbott is an information specialist at the Powell Museum and a volunteer for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
One good thing about the monsoon season is the needed rain. One bad thing is the rain.

I love it but so do the Russian thistles, as do all the pesky weeds. Goat head weeds are taking over our backyard and we will be hard put to keep them out of the house this winter.

Our dog Bea is amazing when it comes to negotiating the desert landscape. She chases lizards untiringly but still manages to avoid the cactus plants. When she does get a sticker in her paw she deftly removes it and eats it.

She eats many things she shouldn’t.
