Scattered thunderstorms have prompted a flash flood watch July 12 that is in effect until 9 p.m. MDT for the Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, according to the National Weather Service.
“A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding,” according to the NWS, which issued the watch out of Salt Lake City. “Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation…. The threat is greatest near burn scars, slot canyons and normally dry washes.”
Severe weather watches and warnings have been issued for many areas in Utah, western Colorado, and Arizona, including south-central Coconino County.
