Page schools prepare for new education standards

Like it or not, the Common Core State Standards Initiative is coming to Arizona schools for the 2014 – 15 school year.

Perry Berry, assistant superintendent for Page Unified School District, said that Common Core is a “state-led effort that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts and mathematics that states voluntarily adopt.”

Common Core is an attempt to provide an education that would ensure “students graduating from high school are prepared to enter credit bearing entry courses in two or four year college programs or enter the workforce with adequate skills,” stated Berry.
