A mother’s reflection at graduation

Jeanie Wright is publisher of the Lake Powell Chronicle.
Her dad held her head in his hands, her tiny feet fit nestled in the bend in his elbows. All wrapped in a pink blanket and tiny hat, her little face was peaceful as an angel.

“She’s like a book with all the pages blank, and we get to help write it,” he said.

The joy of all the dreams ahead was almost as overwhelming as the sense of responsibility sweeping over me. One little life in a world of options.

It seemed so cliché, people telling me to enjoy every day because all too soon she will be walking and talking and then head off to school. After that, the years fly, they told me. Turns out they were right.
