Without taking official action, city council on May 8 readily endorsed the idea of allowing outdoor vendors in Page, but shunned two proposals for commercial activity near Horseshoe Bend.

In a discussion-only item, councilors turned thumbs down to a proposal from a PTS Equity,

PTS Equity is looking to buy about 1.66 acres of city property just north of the Horseshoe Bend parking lot and within walking distance of the trail to the popular visitors’ destination. PTS Equity is a family-owned company run by Vin Paitoon, former tourism coordinator for the city.

He presented a plan for a 2,000-square-foot building that would provide visitor-center-type services and retail sales—for example, hiking gear, lip balm, T-shirts—and food, which would be brought in daily from an outside vendor. There would also be about 2,000 square feet of outdoor seating.
