The Page High boys doubles team of Drew Wilson and Andrew Keisling lost April 26 in the quarterfinals of the state tennis tournament.
The pair, seeded seventh, earned a trip to the quarterfinals of the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III boys tennis championship where they lost to the second-ranked team of Alex Smallwood and Nick Smallwood from Safford.
The PHS boys team, which qualified for the tournament as the 16th seed, lost to top-ranked Thatcher, 5-3.
In their final meet of the regular season April 26, the boys and girls teams placed seventh and eighth, respectively, at the 81st Annual Winslow Invite.
Teams from 23 schools competed.
The Lady Sand Devils were led by Alexis Smith, who scored nearly half the team’s 37 points. Show Low High won with 88 points.
Smith took first in the shot put—good for 10 points—and second in the discus (eight points).
Three Devils placed three in the top ten of the 1,600 meters: Jayde Secody (fourth), Jordan Roskelley (sixth) and Tomeka Church (ninth).
The boys scored 48 points as Snowflake High won the meet with 110.
Winners for the boys were Ammon Secody in the 400 meters, which also included a third-place finish by Marcus Barney, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Justin Littleman, Tyron Yazzie, Secody and Jeffery Miller.
Next up for the Devils is the AIA state championship meet scheduled for May 10 and 11 at Mesa Community College.
The girls completed a down season on an up note, with a 16-4 win over Greyhills Academy, to finish with a 7-18 record.
