After dropping a gritty, hard-fought game at home to Coconino, the Sand Devils baseball team lost big to Flagstaff after the contest was moved from Page when the Eagles ran into transportation issues.
Although starting pitcher Carson Wright struggled against the Panthers March 13, his teammates had his back.
Wright surrendered four runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third, but the Devils answered with three, one and two, respectively, to trail 7-6.
However, neither team would score again.
Page got just one hit over the final four innings, a two-out double by Steven Christie in the fifth. He moved to third on a wild pitch, but Coconino’s Brant Chapin struck out Brendan Catron to end the inning. Chapin struck out 14 in going the distance for the Panthers.
Catron pitched in relief of Wright, giving up five hits over four innings and stranded runners in scoring position in three of those.
