Loren Delmar, right, was declared winner of the inaugural spelling bee for the new Desert View Intermediate School on Feb. 8, with Anuj Kamasamudram, left, the runner-up and alternate for the county spelling bee in Flagstaff. The bee was initially held Jan. 25, with Ethan Green and Nathan Haynie finishing in a tie. The contest was declared invalid due to sound issues, and re-run two weeks later. Delmar is in Mrs. Luster’s fifth-grade class, and Kamasamudram a fourth-grader in Ms. Rogers’ class. Green and Haynie are in Mrs. Talker’s fifth-grade class.
