For its January Artist of the Month, the Powell Museum chose to highlight a group of artists from the Helping Hands Agency, which provides caregiving and education opportunities for disabled adults in the surrounding area.
Art director Crystal Phillips said the art program is part of the curriculum the agency teaches to all of its participants, but they do not push anyone or limit them to any particular style or medium.
“It is about finding out who they are, spending time with them and getting to know them to find out what they are enthusiastic about,” she said. “We want to help them bring out the best they have to offer.”
