At the final meeting for the Page Unified School District this year, Lake View Primary School Principal Risha VanderWay and Desert View Intermediate School Principal Robin Greymountain gave a presentation regarding Arizona State Statute 15-701, which stipulates that no third grade student will be promoted to the next grade level without passing a reading test to prove they can perform at their current grade level.
The statute doesn’t go into effect until the 2013-14 school year, but VanderWay and Greymountain have been collecting, reviewing and comparing data from different assessments in an attempt to determine which tools are the most useful in accurately judging a students performance as part of the district’s Move on When Reading initiative.
