The Page Unified School District, already faced with cutting $1.3 million from its budget, would see its water bill increase 16.5 percent under a proposal to be considered by city council at its Dec. 5 meeting.
City Manager Rick Olson has recommended the city — which is dealing with budget challenges of its own — stop giving the district a reduced rate on water, a rate that is less than the city charges itself.
The district paid $154,311 for water in the 2012 fiscal year, according to figures supplied by Olson. Without the discounted rate, it would have paid $179,747.
