Jean Nydegger left footprints on the road of life

Jean Nydegger, 95, was born Jean Lightner on March 31, 1917, in Duncannon, Pa. and passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2012. in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Mrs. Nydegger lived in Page during the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam and had a career as photo-journalist with the “Arizona Republic”, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the National Parks Service. She was also an original investor with the community newspaper, “Apache Junction/Gold Canyon News”.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Martin H. Duffy and second husband Donald Nydegger, daughter Patricia Jean Grounds and granddaughter Mary Emily Barwick-Tomazin.

She leaves behind her daughter, Robin Barker, son-in-law Ed Barker, granddaughter, Trisha Barwick, grandsons Martin and Alan Barwick all of Apache Junction; Granddaughters Libby Grounds of Post Falls, Id., and Alison Grounds, Gas City, In. 12 great grand children; Larissa Mingus, Shandi Henson, Meghan Snyder, Richard Beza, Bryce Barwick, Trey Barwick, Ryan Baca, Alan Barwick, Aleya Barwick, Jereck Barwick, Brandi Spangler and Trisha Spangler, and six great-great grandchildren.

She lived a full and rich life. She joyously traveled and explored the world, listened to the works of great composers and gazed upon the masterpieces of the world’s most renowned artists.

She has left her footprints on the road of life as a guide for those of us she leaves behind. She loved and was loved and will be sorely missed.
