St. David’s Episcopal Church will host the Southern Team of Bike and Build, an organization dedicated to raising funds for affordable housing by bicycling across the country.
Riders traveling from Kayenta to Page will begin arriving around 2 p.m on July 10. A potluck dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and the riders will talk about their experiences and show a short program on the Bike and Build effort. All are welcome to join the group for dinner and the talk.
Each year up to eight teams of about 30 bicyclists set out to raise money, spending two months on the road and covering 3,500 to 4,000 miles. Each team plans a week long stop along the route to build affordable housing, with shorter stops as well.
Over the past nine seasons, Bike and Build has contributed more than $3.3 million to housing groups such as Habitat for Humanity to fund affordable housing across America. They have spent more than 100,000 hours building, pedaled more than 5 million miles and engaged more than 1,500 young adults in spreading the word about the affordable housing crisis in America.
Stop by and visit with the Southern team during the afternoon, or share in the evening program. St. David’s Episcopal Church is located at 421 S. Lake Powell Blvd.
