SHIP TO SHORE

Modified: Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Crews determined the best way to extract the boat, then tried to stabilize it with a push from the Canyon Odyssey. About two hours later, it was towed out. (Click on "Photos" in the navigation bar near the top of this page to see more pictures.)

The tour boat Desert Shadow ran aground May 11 near the Wahweap boat ramp while heading in for refueling.

There were no passengers on the vessel and no injuries to crew or anyone on land, according to Eric Johnson, vice president of ARAMARK Parks & Destinations.

He said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The boat appeared to have sideswiped a pump-out building and mangled a small iron-and-wood structure before grinding to a halt about 10 or 15 feet onto the stone and gravel shore.

Johnson said there was no damange to the Desert Shadow.
