The boys and girls track teams each finished second in the Kingman Invitational April 7 as plenty of Sand Devils posted personal and seasonal best marks, according to coach Reginald Edwards.
He also pointed to Logan Hill as a pleasant surprise. In his first meet of the year, Hill won the long jump, placed second in the triple jump and third in the 100-meter dash.
Host Kingman easily won both team titles, outscoring the Page boys 159 to 89 and the girls 119.5 to 91. In fact the standings were identical top to bottom for both. After Kingman and Page, it was Coconino, Mohave, Lake Havasu and Tuba City.
In addition to Hill’s win in the long jump — teammate Jason Moore was runner-up — the Sand Devils’ 4x800 relay team of Chavis Curley, Tyron Yazzie, Jeffery Miller and Shawn Secody also placed first.
In the 800 meters, it was Secody (third), Yazzie (fifth) and Miller (ninth).
Miller ran second in the 1600, followed by Kyran Brown (fourth) and Curley (sixth).
Curley took third in the 3200, with Brown fourth and Xiaija Schuldies eighth.
Davin Turquoise was third in the shot put.
For the girls, Braedyn Boldin won the triple jump and took fourth in the long jump.
Nicolette Coleman won the 3200 meters, as teammate Tomeka Church took third. Coleman also finished third in the 1600, ahead of Jayde Secody (fourth) and Jordan Roskelly (sixth).
Secody ran the first leg of the 4x800 relay team that came in second. She handed off to Coleman, who was followed by Church and Roskelly.
Alexis Smith and Danielle Stevens finished 1-2 in the shot put, with Daja Nez taking fourth.
Stevens placed second in the discus, Nez was fifth and Smith sixth.
Next up for the Sand Devils is the KUSD meet April 12 in Kayenta. Next home meet is April 21.
