Posted: Wednesday, Jul 21st, 2010

PAGE — The Arizona Department of Education released the 2010 results for the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards, and Page Unified School District saw some strides, but new math standards resulted in lower scores on some of the AIMS math exams.

Page High School had a huge increase in its writing scores, according to PUSD data coordinator Robin Bayles. The sophomore class saw a 62 percent passing rate, with 9 percent registering a score that exceeds the standards. Among the juniors that did not pass the test for the first time, that class saw a 46 percent passing rate, while 29 percent of the seniors who were still making an attempt to pass writing succeeded this time.

The high school saw a similar increase in its reading scores, Bayles said. More than 59 percent of the sophomores passed the test, while 46 percent of the juniors and 32 percent of the seniors also received a passing score.

Lake View Elementary School’s fifth-grade students also boosted their scores, by 5 percent, according to Bayles. With 8 percent exceeding the standards, the class had a 68-percent passing rate.
