Chronicle, local partners to kick off Community Unity campaign
Posted: Tuesday, Feb 23rd, 2010

PAGE — The recession that has hit the United States has put friends and neighbors in dire straits. Even with a tourist-based economy that has seen growth in recent years, Page is also feeling the tightness from the belt being cinched a couple of notches.

The Lake Powell Chronicle, along with numerous other community businesses and entities, will kick off a year-long campaign called “Page Community Unity,” which is geared at encouraging residents to shop in Page and help to drive the local economy. A four-page section coming out in the March 3 issue will feature the nine major partners and list a plethora of other businesses that are committed to Page dollars remaining in Page.

In addition to a detailed directory of all the businesses on board with the Page Community Unity campaign, the section will also tell about the top nine reasons why it is important to shop at home. Look for window posters, street banners, T-shirts and more to advertise the campaign and the importance of shopping locally.

This campaign is an act against the recession and the Chronicle’s way of helping local businesses fight against the large amounts of money being spent by local residents in markets like Flagstaff and St. George each month. It is also intended to show pride in this community and show local residents and visitors what it means to have a business in this town and how important local businesses are to the future of Page.

“Our community’s success is dependent on how local businesses do. When our businesspeople do well, our community thrives,” said Chronicle publisher Sue Shinneman. “All Page businesses, including the Chronicle, are dependent on local customers for their very survival, and that’s why the newspaper felt it was vital that we start this campaign.”

Besides the Chronicle, the major partners in Page Community Unity include the city of Page, the Page-Lake Powell Chamber of Commerce, Page Honda, Boston’s, Coconino Federal Credit Union, Page Hospital, Cable One, Liberty Auto and Antelope Point Marina.
