Life in Page presents an issue of cultural differences

All the signs of Christmas have come down. The lights, the trees, the Christmas wrapping paper, put away for another year. Now is the time to pay off our credit card bills, stop overeating and spending more time alone rather than socializing too much. Thank God we have a whole year to think about this season again.

But I believe that as we pack up the Christmas season, we are in danger of forgetting what Christmas is really all about. Christmas is more than a sentimental, harmless, once-in-a-year occasion for doing all the things I mentioned above that promote “Christmas spirit.”

And Christmas is much more than the story of a baby born thousands of years ago, with all of the sentimentality that goes with it.

Christmas is the story of the radical invasion of God into a real world, then, as now, filled with political unrest, injustice, poverty, hatred and jealousy.
