Jesus asks us to love the unlovable, embrace the unknown

Posted: Wednesday, Jun 26th, 2013

Jody Gebhardt is the parish administrator for St. Davidís Episcopal Church.
The Gospel for last Sunday was from Luke 8:26-39, a story of casting out demons. In it, Jesus encounters a man possessed by so many demons that he lives in a cemetery, wandering about naked and often bound in chains. Jesus calls the demons out of him, they enter a herd of swine who then run into a lake and drown. People are amazed and come from all over to see the healed man and the healer. They find the man dressed and in his right mind, sitting at the feet of Jesus. But they are afraid of what has happened and ask Jesus to go away.

There are several lessons to be drawn from that story.
