I learned at a young age that the phrase “common sense dictates” was just another way of saying, “Stop, think, and look at things from simple perspective and you’ll be better off.”
With that uncomplicated premise here are a couple concerns in our community that may fall under the heading “common sense dictates.”
First, the Chronicle on Nov. 28 reported that Larry Clark had filed notice of his intent to sue the city. The newspaper also reported that he plans on running for City Council. Common sense dictates that the intent to sue the entity for which you are planning on serving, may not be the best election strategy.
Second, common sense dictates that if you want to grow a church congregation you have to exude a spirit of invitation. That is not the message you get from the Catholic Church when it chains off its parking lot during the home basketball games. If there is an event or meeting taking place at the church on these evenings then clearly there is a cause to reserve spaces. (It is, after all, private property). However, if no church event is scheduled, common sense dictates it should open it up to the public. It’s the Christian thing to do. Some of those parking there for the basketball games may even return, this time on a Sunday.
