NACOG provides free counseling for homeowners to avoid foreclosure

Posted: Thursday, Jul 5th, 2012

The Northern Arizona Council of Governments is offering foreclosure prevention counseling services to area residents free of charge.

NACOG is certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and participates in the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program.

“There are programs out there for financially distressed homeowners who are underwater, unemployed, or underemployed,” said NACOG’s Terry Nagle. “Lenders are completing modifications today that were not being approved four months ago. It is a lot of work for the homeowner but it is now more possible than ever to save your home from being foreclosed on by your lender.”

Nagle warns of foreclosure scams where firms charge distressed homeowners from hundreds to thousands of dollars without providing services.

Homeowners in need of foreclosure counseling can call Nagle at 928-289-6020, email him at tnagle@nacog.org, or call the toll-free foreclosure hotline at 877-448-1211, then ask to be transferred to NACOG.
