Posted: Monday, May 14th, 2012

Becky Maize, who rolled her truck on Coppermine Road Sept. 14, 2011, killing one of her passengers, was sentenced last month to four years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, aggravated assault and DUI.

She also must serve five years of probation.

Maize, 25, of Kiabeto, was traveling northbound on Coppermine Road around 6 a.m. when she lost control of her pickup and crashed.

Following an investigation by the Page Police Department, Maize was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of manslaughter, one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving under the influence with a .08 or more blood alcohol level.

A grand jury indicted Maize for “recklessly” causing the death of Crystal Kascoli Sloan, one of her passengers, and “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly” causing serious physical injury to Patrick Zach and Eric Sloan, her other passengers, while intoxicated.

Crystal was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maize has been in custody at the Coconino County Detention Facility in Flagstaff since the accident.

The Page Police Department was assisted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety to investigate the scene of the accident.
