St. David’s Episcopal Church will offer a book discussion series beginning May 2 at 6:30 p.m.
The discussion will focus on the vitality of the neighborhood church, using Diana Butler Bass’s book, "Christianity for the Rest of Us: How the Neighborhood Church is Transforming the Faith."
One of the questions floating around for the past several years concerns the vitality of the Christian church, especially mainline neighborhood churches. Butler Bass researched 50 congregations from six denominations beginning with the question, “What happened to the neighborhood church, the one you went to because everyone went to church?” Her research showed that many churches are thriving by emphasizing both an inward and outward life for their members, flattening the hierarchy, and connecting worshippers with tradition, new and old.
The group will meet Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm in the St. David’s Fellowship Hall, located at 421 S. Lake Powell Blvd. Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the book are available through St. David’s, and online.
