Arrest made in buried body case

Modified: Wednesday, Mar 15th, 2017

State investigators examine the remains of George Lewis Bartlett after his body was recovered in the backyard of a home on South Navajo Drive in November 2015.

The Page Police Department revealed this morning it had arrested a suspect connected with a dead body buried in the backyard of a home on the 100 block of South Navajo Drive.

Recovered in November 2015, investigators say they believe 54-year-old Timothy Wayne Meek, a former resident of Page, buried the body of George Lewis Bartlett after the latter had died from natural causes. Bartlett was believed to be around 84 years old at the time of his death.

Meek allegedly continued to collect on benefits that Bartlett had been receiving through multiple government agencies, reportedly totaling upwards of $300,000 since the time of his death.

Meek was arrested last week at his current residence in Pueblo, Colo. He has since been extradited back to Arizona and booked on charges of fraud, identity theft, money laundering, concealment of a dead body, and felony theft.

More information on this ongoing story will be provided in the March 22 issue of the Lake Powell Chronicle.
