Navajo Nation Officer Houston James Largo was killed Sunday morning after he was shot during a confrontation with two individuals in a vehicle on a rural road in New Mexico, authorities confirmed Monday.
Largo, 27, was responding to a domestic violence call when he encountered two people on an isolated road north of Prewitt, N.M., the McKinley County Sheriff’s Department reported. A woman who arrived on scene and saw that the officer was down, administered first aid and called for an ambulance through Largo’s radio. He was flown to the University of New Mexico hospital, but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Although no further details have been released, a spokesman for the county confirmed a suspect had been identified as a known person in the vehicle and was taken into custody late Sunday.
