As the 2012-13 school year grows closer to an end, so does the Arizona Common Core Standards professional development period for teachers and staff.
According to the timeline set by the Arizona Department of Education, full implementation of the common core standards will begin next school year.
At the school board meeting on March 12, Page Unified School District assistant superintendent Perry Berry gave a presentation outlining the changes this will bring and ways the district is working to be prepared to meet these standards.
Berry started by explaining the rationale behind the new standards is to make sure graduates are college and career ready. To achieve this, Berry said, the common core presents a new approach to teaching math and English language skills.
