Dozens of citizens squeezed into city council chambers while many more spilled into the hallways outside the meeting room March 13 to protest the firing of a long-time city recreation staffer and to protect the department from potential cuts.
Many suggested the dismissal of Kris Worley was the first step toward purging all city rec staff, a cost-cutting option City Manager Rick Olson has already presented to council for its consideration during upcoming budget workshops.
Projecting revenue to remain flat, Olson says spending cuts are needed to cover higher bond payments, needed street repairs and to boost the city’s cash reserve fund.
