SRP officials explain EPA ruling on NGS

In preparation for the coming public comment period regarding the recent Best Available Retrofit Technology or BART, ruling proposed by Environmental Protection Agency, representatives from the Salt River Project, part owner and operators of the Navajo Generating Station held a community meeting on Jan. 31 at the PERA Club.

Several officials from SRP took turns explaining the recently proposed BART ruling, other future difficulties the plant is facing and provided instruction on how to make the best of the coming public comment period.

Paul Ostapuk, NGS environmental director, explained the plant is facing spending $589 million to install Selective Catalytic Reduction units, SCRs, which are estimated to reduce nitrous oxide emissions by 40 percent to 50 percent.
