In true spirit of the season, local businesses joined the Chronicle to raise money for the community of Newtown, Conn., hoping in some small way to help its residents in the aftermath of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary.
In the wake of the tragedy, Chronicle staffers heard from many in the Page community who said they were heartbroken.
Each wanted to do something to help Newtown residents in a meaningful way.
Lori Cantrell, owner of Page Realty, said she decided to participate because, “Several of us here have grandchildren that age and the thought that a thing like this could happen to kids is horrific. Certainly our thoughts and prayers are with those families.”
Publisher Jeanie Wright, along with advertising reps Ed Pease and Mary Ann Chilton, came up with the idea of giving local business owners the opportunity to purchase an ad on a special page sending “thoughts and prayers... from Page, Arizona to Newtown, Connecticut.”
Every penny of the proceeds would go to a worthy charity to directly help those in the community affected by the tragedy.
