Posted: Wednesday, Jul 11th, 2012

A puppy running loose in Page city park July 2 prompted a man to slash the throat of the man who apparently owned the dog.

Lorenzo Begay was charged with attempted manslaughter and aggravated assault. He was booked into Coconino County jail where he was being held on a $90,000 bond.

According to police, the puppy jumped on the sleeping Begay, who awoke and began yelling at the victim for letting the dog run free. He then approached the man and slashed his throat with a knife.

The victim received 16 stitches to close the wound. Several witnesses forcibly took the knife from Begay, who suffered facial injuries, police said.

In other arrests, according to police reports:

Ray Varner said anything above a .15 is extreme and over .20 is considered super extreme. Shortman was arrested.

• Two days later, an officer responded to a call about a man lying in the parking lot behind the Best Western.

The individual, Derwin Redhouse, allegedly charged the officer and twice tried to to reach into the car and grab him.

The officer subdued Redhouse with a taser, then arrested him for aggravated assault on an officer.

• On July 6 an officer patrolling the area of Birch Circle witnessed two males walking, one of whom he recognized as Jerry Gishie, who threw several objects on the ground.

The officer continued to observe the situation and a short time later reportedly saw the other individual, Henry Sage, urinate on the sidewalk.

The officer arrested both individuals for criminal littering.

• Officers responded to a call of a man passed out in a chair outside of Escalante apartments around 3 p.m. July 7.

Shank Tsosie was found asleep in a chair with his genitals exposed, police said.
