Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth gestures outside the Townhouse on Monday as he tells how a British journalist described him in a story in the Daily Mail. The journalist called Hayworth “the candidate of broad shoulders, excellent vocal projection, and Trump-like hair.” Hayworth got a few chuckles from the Townhouse audience when he grabbed his hair and pointed out it was real. |

PAGE — Former Congressman and current U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth was scheduled to hold a Town Hall forum at the Community Townhouse on Monday evening, but that did not happen.
The forum still went on, but sweltering conditions in the Townhouse made it uncomfortable for such an event, so Hayworth suggested to the small group gathered inside to move the forum outside in the grassy area shaded by the building’s shadow.
“See? Now this is problem solving,” Hayworth said as he grabbed a pair of chairs and moved for the front door.
Hayworth said he intends to follow a similar approach if he gets elected to the Senate. He is facing incumbent Sen. John McCain in the Republican primary Aug. 24, along with a third candidate, Jim Deakin. Hayworth served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2007, but he is making a return to the national political arena out of a belief that McCain’s time of public service, 28 years, is reaching an end.
“Despite some of the tough names I’ve been called and the tough television ads that are out there, I still believe our senior senator is a man committed to public service,” Hayworth said. “I’ll tell you, after 28 years in Washington, the last 24 in the United States Senate, it’s time to say, ‘John, thank you for your service and welcome home. We’d like to have a consistent conservative,’ and that’s what I’ll do.”
