James (Jamie) Robert Hightower, 58 of Page, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2014, surrounded by his family at Family Health West Hospital in Fruita, Colo. Jamie was born in Ajo, Ariz on Oct. 8, 1955, to the late Kenneth and June Hightower. He was the youngest of three children.
Jamie was married to Minerva Alegria on Nov. 19, 1976. They just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. They had one child, Jason Robert Hightower.
Jamie worked for Salt River Project Navajo Generating Station for more than 26 years, 20 of those years in his wheelchair. His retirement date was set for Jan. 22, 2014.
He enjoyed any activities in the outdoors—hunting, fishing, boating and camping were a few of his favorites. He also loved to watch his grandchildren in all their adventures. In his younger years, he was very active with his son in the Page 4-H Club and the Page Little League. He was also very active with the Page Elks Lodge, and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Page.
Jamie is survived by his wife Minerva, son Jason (Cami), three grandchildren, Jordan, Tristany, and Kamdan of Fruita, Colo., his sister, Rhonda Dewey of Phoenix, and her children Misti and Rusty. He is survived by a few uncles and aunts, cousins, many brother and sister-in-laws, and multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a few great great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by Kenneth and June Hightower (parents), and John Hightower (brother).
The funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Feb. 1 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 455 S Lake Powell Blvd., with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall.
The family of James Hightower wishes to thank Family Health West and St. Mary’s Hospital for such exceptional medical care. We would also like to thank all of our amazing family and friends for the continued prayers, meals, cards, and kind words. We miss you dearly Jamie. You will forever and always be in our hearts.
