Gladys Louise Byrd, 78, of Page, left to be with the Heavenly Father on April 14, 2013, in Glendale, Ariz.,
Services were held on April 20 in Safford, Ariz. at the LDS Church located on 303 West 20th St. Bishop James McBride officiated. Interment followed at the Lebanon Cemetery, south of Safford. Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah, arranged the service. A memorial celebration was held April 27 in Page.
Gladys was born in Safford to Alice and Robert Angle, Jan. 2., 1935. Later, Alice married Ezra Sherman, whom Gladys would affectionately call “Daddy.”
Gladys married Cecil Max Byrd in 1951. They have six children together. The couple divorced in 1967, and Gladys relied on her talent as a singer to provide for the family. In 1973, she moved to Page at the opportunity to entertain guests at the Wahweap Marina Rainbow Room restaurant. This began a 40-year span of performing country and western music in Page. She became a local celebrity.
Gladys is survived by her children, Rita Diane (Herb) Lucas of Glendale, Cecil Mark Byrd of Page, Sterling Max (Vickie) Byrd of Page, Dindy Stewart (Lisa) Byrd, of Page, and Sharla Marie Sanderson of Glendale.
She is also survived by her siblings, Virginia Woolsey, Lyle Angle, Viola MacDaniel, Sharon Ryan, Patsy Sherman, and Ed Sherman. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Angle, Ezra Sherman and Alice Sherman, her sisters Ruby Pickens and Midge Snyder, and her son Monty Joe Byrd.
