The Sand Devils softball team added three more wins last weekend, improving their season record to 7-3. They defeated the Kanab Cowboys Friday and posted two impressive victories Saturday in a doubleheader against Holbrook.

The Sand Devils looked particularly good on offense against Holbrook Saturday, and it was Amaya Curley who got it started, hitting a single that sailed over the second baseman’s head. Keilonna Whitehair, Christina Lucero, Ariel Austin, and Shelby Blake also hit singles. The Sand Devils led 2-0 at the end of the first inning.

They doubled their lead in the next inning when Keilonna Whitehair hit a two-run home run.

The Roadrunners kept the game interesting, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning, but the Sand Devils pulled away again, scoring four runs of their own off singles from Blake, Hailey John, Whitehair, and a beautifully executed bunt from Hunt.

At the end of six innings, the Sand Devils had built a comfortable 12-7 lead going into the game’s final inning which is exactly when the Roadrunners had a massive eight-run rally, which gave them a 15-12 lead.
