Devils defense beats Tuba like a drum

Page High’s aggressive defense played an outstanding game Friday night, enabling the Sand Devils’ offense to overcome early mistakes and gradually pull away to a 33-6 win in their season opener at Tuba City.

About the only mistake the defense made was allowing a 20-yard touchdown pass two minutes into the game, and that was only after a botched handoff between Devils’ quarterback Drew Runyon and tailback Jason Moore gave the Warriors the ball at the Page 26.

“I thought we got off to a slow start offensively,” head coach Jeff Wheatly said. “Our defense played well and allowed minus eight rushing yards. We came out in the second half and played well on both sides of the ball."
