Page came within an inch or two of winning the 35th Annual NGS Holiday Classic. With the score tied, Carson Wright’s half-court shot at the buzzer banked hard off the backboard, nearly as hard off the front rim, then hovered tantalizingly over the basket as it bounded off the iron and to the floor.
Shadow Ridge took advantage of the reprieve and pulled away in overtime to defeat the host Sand Devils, 47-44. Wright’s rushed toss from three-quarters court was off the mark.
It was an unexpectedly tight finish given that the Devils fell behind 6-0 at the start of the game, trailed 21-14 at the half. They also played without starting guards Jamaal Thomas for the entire game and Michael Becerra for all but a few minutes in the first quarter. Both were injured.
