The Sand Devils placed a solid second at the Coconino Multiple tournament Sept. 19, but playing on unfamiliar holes maybe have set them back enough to account for the four strokes they finished behind Flagstaff High.
“We played the back nine at Continental,” head coach Mike Bryan said. “Our team has never played that before so we were at a slight disadvantage.”
Page golfers combined for nine-hole total of 167, besting Coconino’s 177 and Mingus’ 187, but falling short of Flagstaff’s 163.
Cody Sanderson was low scorer for Page, with a 40. He was followed by Andrew Keisling, Sheridan Colby and Nick Bryan.
Lindsay Wood, who’d been playing great golf, had a bad day, shooting a 50. Her score was dropped from the team total.
The Sand Devils were scheduled to compete in the Flagstaff Multiple Sept. 25, then the Bradshaw Mountain tournament Sept. 28/29, followed by the Mingus Multiple Oct. 2.
After that, they host their final home match of the year, Oct. 4.
