PAGE — The Sand Devils football team will not be going for glory in the 4A-II state tournament after losing to Flagstaff at home on Friday, 26-3, to bring its season record to 4-5.
Page made its only score in the first quarter when the Sand Devils made it all the way down to the goal line but could not make it that last yard across. With 6:34 left in the first, kicker Josh Whipple came in and sent the ball up and over for the field goal. The rest of the quarter remained scoreless.
However, Flagstaff made it clear in the second quarter that, despite being 2-6 for the year, they planned to take down Page. With just one minute passing on the clock, Flagstaff scored a touchdown to lead 6-3. Then the Eagles came through with another touchdown with exactly five minutes left in the half. A two-point conversion right after gave Flagstaff a 14-3 lead to take into the locker room.
